Alessandro A. Iuppa is Zurich’s Senior Policy Advisor on Global Issues. He joined Zurich in January 2007 as the North America Head of Government and Industry Affairs and assumed his current responsibilities in January 2009. Based in Washington, DC, Mr. Iuppa represents Zurich’s interests with governmental and industry bodies at the international level, including the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
Prior to joining Zurich, Iuppa served as Superintendent of Insurance for the State of Maine from 1997 through 2006 and as Deputy Superintendent from 1994 to 1997. As Superintendent; he was active on national and international insurance issues. He served as President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in 2006 and served a comparable role as Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) from 2004 through 2006. Mr. Iuppa is a recognized expert on insurance matters and is frequently called upon to speak to groups throughout the world.
From 1991 until 1994, he provided consulting services to insurance departments in furtherance of their efforts to rehabilitate financially troubled insurance companies. And, from 1986 to 1991 he served as Deputy and Commissioner of Insurance for the Nevada Division of Insurance.
He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont (1975) and his Masters in Public Administration from the Suffolk University Graduate School of Management in Boston (1980). He now resides in Washington DC.
