The Honorable Wayne Livingston Furbert was first elected in 1993 to represent Hamilton West as a Member of the United Bermuda Party.

He became interested in public service as a boy while hearing stories about his great-great-uncle, Mr. Earnest Furbert and his great, great, grandfather, Mr. W.B. Furbert, who served Hamilton Parish as Members of Common Wealth Parliament.

Wayne Furbert was educated at Francis Patton School, Bermuda Technical Institute, and the Sixth Form Center, before he went off to The University of Toledo. Wayne excelled in mathematics and physics and was invited to join the Mathematics Honor Society. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education degree. Later he received a Master’s Degree in E – Business. He currently is pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration.

Wayne has had significant experience in Business. He joined PriceWaterHouse (Accountancy Firm) as an Auditor. Worked as a supervisor in the accounts department of an Insurance company and then accepted the challenge to manage a Law firm as General Manager and Financial Controller. In 1991 he qualified as a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Accountant. In 1998 he demonstrated his entrepreneurial talent by creating, owning and managing three successful private companies.

Wayne Furbert served with distinction as Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs; later, as Minister of Transport and as Minister of Housing, Health and Social Services. During his service he accomplished many things for the people of Bermuda; he was the first Minster who fought to provide FREE transportation for our seniors.

Wayne served as Chairman of the Finance committee of the King Edward Memorial Hospital, Chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety, and member of a group called Leaders of tomorrow.
Wayne served as Chairman and Leader of the official opposition, The United Bermuda Party. After becoming frustrated with the UBP and the direction it was going, he joined the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) and crossed the floor to sit in Parliament as a Member of the PLP.

Wayne is willing to persevere through all tribulations to accomplish his mission to transform Bermuda into a place of peace, progress and prosperity for all.

On 2 November 2011, Wayne Furbert was elevated to Cabinet and appointed Minister of Business Development & Tourism.
