Third Insurance Day Summit London hailed as a great success
Over the 2-day event (21-22 May 2008), insurance and reinsurance industry leaders gathered for the third annual Insurance Day Summit London, in association with The Review magazine. Over 140 delegates from over 70 companies attended to discuss, debate and to develop strategies to succeed in a softening market.
Some 60 high-level speakersshared their insights, thoughts and strategies for success over the two day event. The topic specific roundtables, panel sessions and multiple conference streams offered a wealth of debate across a broad range of the hottest insurance topics. More than ever before, delegates and speakers were able to share experiences, to network and to do business.
Catlin CEO Stephen Catlin's speech on the opening morning of the event certainly made an impact. Mr Catlin warned the insurance market that it could be up to five years before the full effect of the current sub-prime financial crisis was felt by the sector and added that he considered his investment advisers to be to blame for the fact that Catlin had suffered its own sub-prime write-offs.
"With more than 60 speakers over two days The Insurance Day Summit London is now firmly established as the London Market's premier opportunity to meet and hear from the
sector's senior executives," Insurance Day Editor, Richard Banks.
Other speakers on the first day included new Markel President Paul Springman, who was delivering his first public address since succeeding Tony Markel, Kiln CEO, Charles Franks, who described how to underwrite effectively through the soft part of the market cycle and Lloyd's Director of Market Operations, Sue Langley, who provided an update on current market reform initiatives.
The second day of the Summit featured Cooper Gay CEO Toby Esser, Tokio Marine CEO Yasuyuki Sezaki, and former Lloyd's chairman, Max Taylor debating the benefits of foreign investment and acquisition in the London Market.
"Delegates at this year's event experienced an array of presentations that demonstrated the depth and breadth of the expertise of what remains the most exciting and diverse insurance market in the world," Greg Dobie, Editor, The Review.
