Mark Hoban MP joins ID Summit London line-up

Financial secretary to the Treasury, Mark Hoban, will deliver a keynote speech at next year’s Insurance Day Summit London.
Hoban, who has also been the Conservative MP for Fareham for the past 10 years, joins the growing list of industry chief executives already confirmed as participating in the prestigious two-day event, which takes place over May 15 and 16.
These include the chief executive of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Dr Terri Vaughan, president of the Chartered Insurance Institute and chief executive of Lockton International, Julian James, chief executive of Novae, Matthew Fosh, and chief executive of Miller Insurance Services, Graham Clarke.
Ahead of a summer of Olympic Games in London, the chief risk officer and head of risk and audit at the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), David Law, will also take to the Insurance Day stage to share his experience of working at the public body charged with developing and building the new venues and infrastructure for the games and their ongoing use after this year.
But it is the keynote speech of Treasury secretary Hoban that will be most keenly anticipated by summit delegates. Hoban has shown an increasing interest in the insurance industry since being appointed to the position in 2010, having occupied the role in opposition for the previous five years.
In January last year, he told a British Insurance Law Association lecture at Lloyd’s Old Library there was a strong argument for insurers to be regulated by the Bank of England, ahead of the Conservatives returning to power, as part of the subsequent coalition government.
He has also been actively involved in moves to compensate savers who lost money in the Equitable Life affair and, more recently, has also contributed to discussions about the calibration of the Solvency II standard formula. More details of the focus of his address will be announced in due course.
Now in its seventh year, the Insurance Day Summit London is firmly established as the best platform for executive management to meet, network and do business, all brought together by the insurance industry’s only daily newspaper.
More than 50 chief executive and senior management speakers from the London market and further afield will come together on the Insurance Day stage to debate the major issues impacting the sector.
Other speakers already confirmed as participating in the 2012 event include the chief operating officer at Zurich Financial Services, Ann Haugh, Torus chief executive, Clive Tobin, BMS chief executive, Carl Beardmore, Barbican chief executive, David Reeves, non-executive chairman at Dual International, Bob Van Gieson, and Chubb’s UK and Ireland manager, Jeremy Miles.
More big-hitters from home and abroad will be added to the line-up in due course, as will programme details and a host of new additions to the already popular format, which moves to a prestigious new venue in 2012, the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, in the heart of the City.
Once again the event will be chaired by experienced summiteers, the head of the London Market Group secretariat, Christopher Croft, and the chief executive of the Lloyd’s Market Association, David Gittings.
