Rupert Flatscher

Head of the Risk Trading Unit (RTU), Munich Re

Rupert Flatscher is Head of the Risk Trading Unit (RTU) of Munich Re, responsible for Munich Re’s activities in alternative risk transfer, including capital markets business such as catastrophe bonds and ILWs.

The RTU is also responsible for the company’s global retrocession program. Collectively, the activities of the RTU form an important and integral aspect of Munich Re’s risk management effort.

Before heading Munich Re’s capital market and retrocessional activities, Mr. Flatscher had held several senior executive roles throughout his 18-year tenure with the firm. He started his career as a property engineering and property catastrophe underwriter, both facultative and treaty business, and later moved into Contingency, Political Risk and Enterprise Risk Underwriting. Mr. Flatscher subsequently managed the Enterprise Risk Underwriting department.
Mr. Flatscher received his diploma in Mathematics from Munich University of Technology and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
